Reckoning
(This song encompasses some of
my thoughts on 9/11 and the current wars. It's
told in three parts: looking at our choices and
responsibilities as a nation, the choice made by
a single soldier, and finally, my or your own
personal choices on our day of reckoning.)

We live in a time
That with an hour of one day, the rest were defined
In a country found on ideals
We can't help but question the cost of our freedom
Cause there are good men dying
For comforts we all have taken for granted
And though you try to deny
The moment will come from the truth you can't hide

When it's your day of reckoning
To make you stand and be counted
For what you'd choose to be used for
And what you'd give to live a life that was free

He signed up at 21
To take a tour of the world, let it's vastness unfurl
And to serve his beloved nation
Where the dream of the free is for all to believe
He was sent to work in the depths of man
Where day after day attacks took new lives away
And when it seemed that hate might kill the dream
He knew, no matter what's ahead
To my brothers I'm committed to the end

For on my day of reckoning
I made my stand to be counted
For what I'd choose to be used for
And what I'd give to live a life that was free

Only time will tell each stories end
Of whether you'll be strong or will you bend
For in each and every soul
Exists the choices that define our lives

Since that day my thoughts often turn
To those who have died and the families left behind
And I wonder what there is I can do
To affect some change upon this land
Is there the strength in this lone man

And on my day of reckoning
Will I make my stand to be counted
For what I'd choose to be used for
And what I'd give to live a life that was free
What would you give to live a life that was free
