Line
(This song was written for my
friend Jan, and inspired by a hiking trip we
took in the Scottish Highlands. Jan is German
and we passed the time on our long hikes by
covering all manner of topics, including
European's perspectives on George Bush, the
Irag war, and a heated discussion about the
relationship between the EU and America. The
idea of this song which came from those
discussions, is that to begin to address some
of the problems of the world, maybe a very
small step is to further global understanding
on a person-to-person basis. Making the effort
to get to know the other people whom you share
this world with.)

Setting caution aside
I bought my ticket for as far as I could go
Searching the world for some answers
To the issue looming now
That we find ourselves apart
From what should always connect us
But we don't need to be far apart
For we can close this distance

By crossing on over the line
That separates and divides
The people we are from who we all could be
And what we need to see
That no one can stand alone
All life exists interwoven
So each time you reach out
There's a ripple of knowledge that builds
To a wave of change

Meeting up with my friends we set out walking
Getting lost would be our guide
Connecting with people is this fight's conquest
For understanding is the prize
There is much that sets us apart
But we are not so different
There may be much that pushed us apart
So we must build new bridges

(Chorus)

It is all up to you
Stay away or become engaged
It is all up to you
That's the choice we face today
It is all up to you
Take the time to realize
That it all can be up to us
To create the world we've waited for

(Chorus)
